EIR Global presents UNECE Renewable Energy Status Report to policy makers and ADB representatives in Singapore

Highlights from UNECE Renewable Energy Status Report were presented today, 7th December 2015, at Renewable Energy Grid Integration Workshop in Singapore. The event was organized by the Sustainable Energy Centre of Excellence, a joint initiative between the Sustainable Energy Association Singapore (SEAS) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Katarina Uherova Hasbani, lead author of the report presented key messages from the report to an audience of more than 30 policy makers and government officials from Caucasus, Central, South and South-East Asia along with representatives from various ADB offices.

The presentation highlighted that despite comprising over 300 million inhabitants and representing 4.9% of the world’s GDP  17 UNECE countries in South and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia represented only 0.5% or USD 0.9 billion of global renewable energy investment in 2014. Attracting investment represents a major challenge in these countries, despite numerous support schemes and policies for renewable energy. The presentation also mentioned opportunities for further renewable energy deployment, including in power and heating sectors, which could contribute to improving energy access in the region. Several participants highlighted the positive value of data provided by REN21 reports and confirmed their interest to improve conditions for renewable energy market developments in their country.
