Date: 2012
Type: Communication & awareness, Economic & social development
Location: Greece

Information and training sessions for young people on topics such as ‘If not an employee, then what?’, and ‘Ever thought about working for an SME?’ were organised at job fairs across the EU. These interactive workshops encouraged young people who were looking for work, to consider the 23 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in Europe as potential employers, and stimulate budding young entrepreneurs to take the plunge and start their own business. Youth@Work was implemented by the European Commission and operates in close cooperation with the EURES Network and the national Public Employment Services (PES).
EIR undertook the organisation of the Youth@Work event in Athens which was organised on Saturday, 3 March 2012 at the Peace & Friendship Stadium within the 14th International Education & Career Exhibition. The event consisted of six, 1-hour sessions on youth employment in SMEs and youth entrepreneurship. The programme was rich in content and featured a total of 22 speakers including speakers from the National Public Employment Service, General Secretariat of Youth of the Ministry of Education, business associations and networks active in youth entrepreneurship issues, SMEs, Erasmus and other internship programmes.
