PERSEUS stands for Policy-oriented marine Environmental Research in the Southern EUropean Seas. PERSEUS is a research project funded by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Research Programme (FP7) under the theme OCEAN 2011-2013 and involves 54 partners from 22 countries.
The PERSEUS Project is a truly unique research project in that it is for the first time a research project is being carried out to assess and predict the combined effects of human and natural pressures on the Mediterranean and Black Seas to be used in policy. More importantly, perhaps, is that all the new scientific knowledge and tools to be developed under PERSEUS will be blended with socio-economic analysis to produce concrete recommendations and tools for policy-makers to introduce science-based policy-making to help achieve Good Environmental Status (GES).
EIR is responsible for the work package on Communication, Outreach and Information Management which in essence 'translates' the PERSEUS findings and presents this information in an attractive, user-friendly format. The activities that will be carried out include:
- Development of the PERSEUS Communication Strategy and visual identity. The Communication Strategy sets out how the project will communicate the work and results of the PERSEUS project to the targeted stakeholders namely, policy and decision-makers, the scientific community, environmental organizations, the media and the general public. As part of the visual identity, the PERSEUS logo was produced along with promotional flyers and brochures.
- Development of communication tools for all stakeholders including scientific community / researchers, policy and decision-makers, media and the general public. The communication tools include the PERSEUS website and presence on social media networks as well as the preparation of publications, audio-visual products and other promotional material.
- Targeted communication tools for media relations and publlic outreach including two public awareness campaigns, namely JellyWatch & LitterWatch as well as the development of the 'Clean Seas - Communication & Outreach Best Practices."
- Development of a Policy Brief to be presented to policy-makers.
