EU – Caspian Energy and Transport Ministerial Conferences

The European Parliament requested the organisation of a Summit involving the EU and the heads of state of the countries surrounding the Caspian Basin in order to enhance energy relations with the region. The overall objective of this conference was for the European Commission and the countries of the Caspian and Black Sea region to agree to open a new co-operation aimed at the progressive integration of their energy and transport markets. This was considered a ground-breaking conference in terms of opening new co-operation as it was the first time that high-level representatives from all counties in the region participated Participant countries included Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia (as observer), Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
EIR provided technical support in the preparation of work programmes, discussion papers, agenda, country statements and other strategic conference documents as well as in the preparation of the conclusions for the energy sector.
