Renewable markets in South-East and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia await investment flows
EIR Global marks this year two decades of its involvement in energy sector reforms in the countries of South-East and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. Initially, energy work in the region entailed a focus on oil and gas sectors. This is no longer the case and we have participated in a progressive shift to more sustainable energy models based on increasing renewable energy share in the countries’ energy mix and improving energy efficiency. Most of the governments in the region, have embarked on policies framing these developments, which are supported by the international donor community and development banks. The INOGATE Programme of the European Commission is an example of this shift. The programme was initially designed to optimize oil and gas infrastructure in the region. Today its main focus is on enabling sustainable energy solutions.
EIR Global is excited to be part of this changing landscape. Our services enable the transition to a more sustainable, reliable and affordable energy future. We were delighted to work with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Renewable energy Policy Network for the 21st century (REN21) on a regional report to highlight the developments in sustainable energy in the region. This project mobilized almost 20 of EIR Global collaborators in the region along with wide range of stakeholders familiar with renewable energy and energy efficiency developments. The report covers industry, market, policies and regulation and investment. It is a witness to the incredible potential of the region as well as the need for increasing investment flows to achieve full valorization of its sustainable energy resources. The Executive Summary is now available. For more information please visit the UNECE and REN 21 websites.
The launch of the REN21 UNECE Renewable Energy Status Report is planned on 7th December 2015 during the forthcoming COP21 Conference in Paris.
