Reaching out to the world for universal access to energy
Simply said, energy enables and as eloquently stated by UN Secretary -General Ban Ki-moon, it is the golden thread that connects economic growth, increased social equity, and an environment that allows the world to thrive. The EU is at the forefront of supporting this global initiative and meeting the challenge of providing sustainable energy for all that is accessible, cleaner and more efficient. Now EIR Global has the privilege to support the EU in the ‘Sustainable energy for all’ challenge.
EIR Global is a partner in the consortium that was recently awarded the contract for the EU Technical Assistance Facility for Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) covering the regions of Neighbourhood (East and South), Asia (including Central Asia), Latin America, Caribbean and Pacific.
Modern energy services are crucial to human well-being and to a country’s economic development. Yet, over 1.3 billion people are without access to electricity and 2.6 billion people are without clean cooking facilities. Without access to modern and sustainable energy services, achieving the Millennium Development Goals is unrealistic, as is the promotion of economic development and protection of the Earth's climate and ecosystems.
The SE4All initiative was launched in September 2011 by the United Nations with the objectives of ensuring universal access to modern energy services, doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. The EU supports the SE4All objectives and has created a EUR 65 million Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) to support developing countries which are committed to reach the SE4All objectives and to significantly scale up investment in the energy sector – of which this project is one of the three projects constituting the TAF.
This project will provide high-level technical assistance to the committed countries in reaching the SE4All objectives. Partner countries will receive assistance in increasing their administrative and technical capacity for sector policy analysis, development and implementation and accelerating and implementing positively, efficiently and effectively their sector reform policies on access to sustainable energy, energy efficiency and energy supplies, thus to facilitating the implementation of the investment projects for the development of the infrastructure that is needed to meet the SE4All objectives
The project will be implemented over the next four years by the consortium led by Sofreco and its partners EIR Global, Gas Natural Fenosa Engineering, Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands, CEERD and SEVEN7.
We are looking for skilled Senior Energy Experts and talented Junior Energy Experts to join us for assignments in Asia, Latin America, Caribbean and Pacific. Please visit our Project Opportunities section in this website.
