Over the past decades Western Balkan countries have made significant policy and legislative progress in their renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors. This policy improvement offers the best opportunity to build sustainable and efficient energy sectors that can exploit and develop the enormous potentials in renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors. However, viewed from a global perspective, investment needs in terms of sustainable energy infrastructure in the region remain significant and there are very few signs of concrete investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects going forward.
This is the central topic of my article: ‘Renewable energy and energy efficiency in the Western Balkans’ for the summer edition of the Revolve Media magazine on page 10: https://issuu.com/revolve-magazine/docs/re20_summer_2016
The article takes you through a journey in the Western Balkan countries exploring the core challenges that the region is facing in attracting investments for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, and most importantly identifying the key critical elements needed to mobilise finance in the region.
Last but not least, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the interviewees for finding the time to share their perspectives and expertise, which were all of great value for the writing of the final piece.
